According to information received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Rojan Ebrahimi, a 20-year-old mixed martial arts (MMA) athlete from Saqqez, attempted suicide following repeated summonses and pressure from the Intelligence Department to cooperate in identifying and entrapping political activists outside Iran. After being transferred to hospital and spending five days receiving inpatient care, she survived the life-threatening incident.
Ebrahimi had previously been arrested on Saturday, October 3, 2026, after Intelligence Department forces raided her family home without presenting a judicial warrant. She was transferred to an undisclosed location and later temporarily released on bail. However, her mobile phone, SIM card, and Instagram account remained in the possession of security forces.
According to the information received, after gaining access to the young athlete’s Instagram account, security forces used it to send messages to political activists outside Iran. New Instagram pages have also been created in her name, through which messages have been sent to these activists. At the same time, Ebrahimi was reportedly subjected to pressure to cooperate with the Saqqez Intelligence Department.
The pressure was accompanied by threats of fabricated criminal charges, lengthy prison sentences, rearrest, torture, and harassment, reportedly intended to force her to cooperate with the security agency. The continuation of these threats and pressure ultimately led her to attempt suicide by ingesting pills. Following her transfer to hospital, she received medical treatment, including gastric lavage, and remained hospitalized for five days.
It should be noted that even while hospitalized, Ebrahimi reportedly did not feel safe due to continued pressure from the Intelligence Department and requested early discharge before completing her course of treatment. As of the publication of this report, no precise information is available regarding her current condition.
