Hana’s report on the suspicious death of another woman, Narmin Mohammadi in Sanandaj

According to information received by Hana Human Rights Organization, Narmin Mohammadi, a 24-year-old woman from the village of Bardaspi in the Saral district of Divandareh County and a resident of Naiser Township in Sanandaj, died under unclear circumstances on the evening of Thursday, October 8, 2026 (16 Mehr 1405).

Narmin had married one of her relatives approximately five years ago. According to preliminary information, conflicting accounts have emerged regarding the circumstances of her death. While some information received suggests that she may have died by hanging, another account, attributed to individuals close to both families, claims that she died after falling down the stairs.

Information provided to Hana also indicates that the location in question had a short staircase consisting of three steps, raising questions about the account of a fall. However, the height of the staircase or the description of the scene alone is insufficient to confirm or rule out any of the accounts. Determining the cause of death requires an examination of the scene, the nature and location of any physical injuries, a forensic medical examination, and the assessment of expert findings against statements from individuals with relevant knowledge.

From a legal standpoint, until the investigation is complete, Narmin’s death cannot be classified as suicide, an accident, or homicide. The possibility of involvement by other individuals, including within the family environment, must also be examined as part of a criminal investigation, without treating family relationships alone as grounds for attributing criminal responsibility. In such cases, investigating any history of domestic violence, previous disputes, or threats is also an essential part of establishing the circumstances surrounding the death.

Hana Human Rights Organization expresses concern over the unresolved questions in this case and calls for an urgent, independent, and effective investigation by the judicial authorities and forensic medical services. Hana emphasizes that prematurely accepting any of the accounts without examining the available evidence could undermine the family’s right to seek justice and potentially allow those responsible for a crime to evade accountability. Establishing the cause of Nermin Mohammadi’s death and examining all possibilities, including the possibility of violence against women, requires an impartial, evidence-based investigation.
