Judge Reza Najafzadeh currently presides over Branch 1 of the Revolutionary Court in Orumiyeh, which is one of the most notorious branches regarding human rights violations. According to Hana’s investigations, the majority of human rights violations committed by Najafzadeh pertain to the trials of protesters involved in the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement. Based on the testimonies of victims, Najafzadeh fundamentally denies political defendants even the minimum defense rights and does not adhere to any of the guarantees of defendants’ rights in a criminal trial.
The latest human rights violation case associated with him involves Rezgar Bigzadeh Babamiri along with several other protesters from the “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, where the defense rights of the defendants have been violated, and there is a possibility of issuing life-depriving sentences against them.
Hana calls for the inclusion of Reza Najafzadeh in the European Union’s list of human rights violators and any possibility of pursuing international criminal prosecution against this individual.
