On Thursday, May 20, 2021, a number of asylum seekers and refugees from Iranian Kurdistan living in Iraqi, Kurdistan Region held a protest rally in front of the United Nations Mission in Erbil, the capital of the Kurdistan Region.
A number of members and collaborators of the Hana Human Rights Organization In addition to actively participating in the rally, also supported the rights of asylum seekers and refugees living in Iraqi Kurdistan. In this rally, the participants, holding placards, posters and slogans, expressed their demands to the officials of the UN mission in Kurdistan within the framework of human rights laws. Representatives of the United Nations agreed to speak with the delegates a few hours after the rally. In this conversation, the representatives of the protesters, who were members of the Iranian Kurdistan Refugee Associations living in the Kurdistan Region, held a meeting with the UN representatives in Kurdistan, during which the representatives of the demonstrators presented their demands. They submitted their demands and requests as they were raised in 9 paragraphs. Among the protesters' demands are transparency and consideration of their requests for transfer to a third country, consideration of the request of asylum seekers and political refugees, provision of accommodation for Iranian Kurdistan refugees in Iraqi Kurdistan, fair implementation of the service-sharing system, and Food aid, medical and educational health, providing job opportunities and easy work in this regard. It should be noted that the representatives of the United Nations announced in this conversation that next Sunday, after talking with their officials, in another meeting with the representatives of the refugee associations in Iraqi Kurdistan, they will answer their requests.
