Johar Fatahi, a 60-year-old resident of Javanrud, was killed on 21 November 2022 during the nationwide protests against the government’s killing of Zhina (Mahsa) Amini. He was shot and killed by direct fire from a DShK heavy machine gun operated by Iranian security forces in Palestine Square in Javanrud, at a moment when he was trying to rescue his injured daughter amid the gunfire.
Because security forces had blocked movement in the area, Johar Fatahi was kept for nearly an hour inside a local resident’s home. After his delayed transfer to the hospital, he died due to severe bleeding and the lack of available blood.
Johar Fatahi was married and the father of five children.
