Borhan Elyasi

Borhan Elyasi, a 22-year-old young man from Javanrud County, was killed during the nationwide protests sparked by the state killing of Jina Amini. On 31 December 2022, coinciding with the fortieth-day memorial ceremony for the victims of this city, Iranian regime security forces launched a violent crackdown on protesters using tear gas, pellet ammunition, and live bullets. Borhan Elyasi was directly shot with live ammunition, sustaining gunshot wounds to his shoulder and lung. He was transferred to Rasoul Akram Hospital in Javanrud, where he later died. On the same day, during the nationwide protests and the fortieth-day memorial ceremony for seven victims—Erfan Kakaei, Bahaedin Veisi, Johar Fatahi, Jamal Azami, Tahsin Miri, Esmail Gol-Anbar, and Masoud Teymouri—who had been killed on 20 and 21 November 2022 as a result of direct gunfire by Iranian regime security forces in Javanrud, more than ten protesters, including a child, were injured. As a result of the high number of wounded, the city’s hospital faced a critical shortage of blood.
