According to information received by the Hana Organization for Human Rights, on Sunday, August 23, 2026, Salam (Shahin) Azari, a 43 year old citizen from Naqadeh and a former political prisoner, was detained through the use of violence by security forces and transferred to an undisclosed location.
Two days after his detention, he continues to be denied contact and visitation with his family and access to legal counsel, and his family’s efforts to learn of his condition and whereabouts have thus far proven fruitless.
Salam Azari has a prior history of detention and conviction in political cases. As of the time of this report’s publication, no information is available regarding the reasons for his renewed detention, the possible charges against him, the agency responsible for his arrest, or the judicial authority handling his case.
