Hana: The Islamic Republic of Iran continues its cross-border attacks against Iranian Kurdish parties in the Kurdistan Region, once again targeting the “Grdachal” camp belonging to the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI) near Erbil using drones. This attack targeted the residences of families and civilian inhabitants of this party, further revealing a recurring pattern of strikes on civilian locations within the territory of the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
According to received information, this attack occurred at 10:25 PM on Friday, April 17, 2026. A drone affiliated with the Islamic Republic of Iran targeted the Girdachal camp near Erbil, which houses the families of party members.
This strike took place while the civilian camps of the PDKI had already been targeted earlier that same afternoon by drones and missiles. As a result of that previous attack, Shahin Azarbarzin lost his life, and his father, Nader Azarbarzin, was severely injured.
Furthermore, in another attack on the headquarters of PDKI Peshmergas in the Balisan region, two female Peshmergas named Neda Miri and Samira Allahyari were killed, and several other Peshmergas were wounded.
Following these strikes, on the evening of Thursday, April 16, 2026, the Islamic Republic of Iran also targeted the perimeter of the “Azadi” camp near Koya—the residence of the party’s families—using two drones.
Based on collected data, since the onset of conflicts with the United States and Israel, the Islamic Republic of Iran has targeted the family camps of Iranian Kurdish parties in the Kurdistan Region with more than 170 missiles and drones. These attacks have resulted in at least 9 deaths and dozens of injuries to date.
The continuation of these attacks, particularly targeting family residences and other civilian sites, demonstrates a blatant disregard by the Islamic Republic of Iran for its fundamental obligations under international law and international humanitarian law. Targeting civilians and civilian infrastructure constitutes a clear violation of fundamental principles such as distinction, proportionality, and the prohibition of attacks on civilian persons and objects.
Hana, while condemning the continuation of these attacks, emphasizes that the repeated strikes by the Islamic Republic of Iran on the family camps of Iranian Kurdish parties in the Kurdistan Region not only directly endanger civilian lives but also serve as a clear example of systematic behavior violating the peremptory norms of international law.
