Two individuals lost their lives in Saqqez after a hand grenade was thrown by a pro-government paramilitary operative

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on the evening of Saturday, 7 February 2026, in the city of Saqqez, an armed individual identified by the initials “A.G.” carried out a deadly attack after failing to sexually assault a woman. The assailant threw a hand grenade into a residential home, killing the woman’s husband and one of her relatives.

Sources report that “A.G.” is affiliated with the so-called Jash forces in the region. Exploiting his armed position, he attempted to assault a married woman. Fearing for his wife’s safety, her husband moved her to the home of a relative. However, after locating them, the assailant engaged in a confrontation with the husband and several family members, then threw a hand grenade into the house, resulting in the deaths of two people.

The victims have been identified as Khaled Motahar, the woman’s husband, and Yasin Karimi, a 17-year-old relative of the family.

As of the time of this report, no further details about the incident have been made public. The Hana Human Rights Organization strongly condemns this killing and the ongoing lack of security for women, and expresses deep concern over the arming of Jash forces in the region by the Islamic Republic of Iran. In Kurdish political and legal discourse, Jash refers to individuals who cooperate with the central government against the Kurdish people’s freedom-seeking aspirations.
