Every year, large numbers of Kurds in the provinces of Iranian Kurdistan are killed or maimed by landmines leftover from the Iran-Iraq war, as well as mines planted by the Islamic Republic against Kurdish opposition parties.
The Islamic Republic has signed the Global Convention on the Non-Use of Mines but does not adhere to it.
