Kianoush Cheraghi on Dry Hunger Strike in Ilam Detention Center

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Kianoush Cheraghi, a detained citizen in Ilam, has been on a dry hunger strike since three days ago in protest against a one-month detention order issued without formal charges or interrogation.

According to informed sources, Cheraghi is currently being held in Ilam Detention Center without any transparent legal proceedings, confined in a room with 15 inmates charged with murder.

The same source also reported that on Friday, June 27, 2025, detention center officials further deprived Cheraghi of access to basic necessities.

Kianoush Cheraghi was arrested on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at his home without the presentation of any judicial warrant.

Previously, on May 13, 2025, Cheraghi had been released from Darreh Shahr Prison after serving 14 months of an imposed prison sentence, with the remainder of his sentence suspended.

He had earlier been detained on Sunday, March 24, 2024, after being summoned to the Enforcement Office of Ilam and was transferred to Ilam Prison to serve his sentence. He was later released under electronic surveillance.

On January 25, 2025, Branch 6 of the Ilam Court of Appeals issued a ruling to revoke his electronic monitoring.

Kianoush Cheraghi had been sentenced in October 2023 by Branch 2 of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Ilam, presided over by Judge Seyed Reza Salahoddini, to one year of imprisonment for “propaganda against the Islamic Republic of Iran,” with time served taken into account.

In a separate part of his case, on November 6, 2023, he was sentenced by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court Two in Dehloran, presided over by Judge Hossein Panahi, to two years of imprisonment and required to handwrite a 200-page research document containing the wills and life stories of ten individuals killed during the Iran-Iraq war, to be approved by the Foundation of Sacred Defense in Ilam. This was in relation to the charge of “spreading falsehoods with the intent to disturb public opinion through cyberspace.”

Kianoush Cheraghi, a former employee of the Social Security Organization, was initially arrested by security forces in Dehloran on October 3, 2023, and was later released on bail pending the completion of his legal proceedings.
