According to the Hana Human Rights Organization, Goran Ghaderi, a resident of Marivan, had previously been sentenced to death by the judicial system of the Islamic Republic of Iran on charges of premeditated murder in connection with the death of Shiler Rasouli, a 36-year-old woman from the village of Cheshmider in the Sarvabad region.
According to obtained information, on the evening of September 3, 2022, Ghaderi invited Shiler to his home under the pretense of asking for help for his wife. There, he allegedly attempted to assault her. Fearing sexual assault, Shiler jumped out of a window and, after several days of hospitalization, passed away on September 8, 2022.
Following this incident, a wave of public protests erupted in Mariwan. Women in the city first gathered in front of the courthouse demanding justice for Shiler’s death. Her funeral ceremony also turned into a public demonstration against violence and injustice.
Goran Ghaderi was arrested in September 2022 and, after a judicial process, was sentenced to death on charges of premeditated murder.
