On Monday, February 24, 2025, Ebrahim Mohammadi, a political prisoner from Sanandaj, was transferred to the infirmary of Sanandaj Central Prison on the 24th day of his hunger strike due to the deterioration of his health.
Ebrahim Mohammadi is married and has three children.
According to the Iranian Human Rights Organization, the prison’s supervising judge, Javad Ahzar, has been exerting psychological pressure on Mohammadi to persuade him to end his hunger strike. He has also refused to provide him with the necessary forms for furlough, conditional release projects, or electronic ankle monitoring, stating that these options will only be available if he ends his hunger strike.
Reports indicate that this political prisoner was transferred to Sanandaj Prison on December 18, 2024, to serve his sentence. He began his hunger strike in protest against pressures from security and judicial institutions on his family members, the sentence issued against him, and his extralegal detention in prison.
On February 9, 2024, Branch 1 of the Sanandaj Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Karami, sentenced Mohammadi to 12 months in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime.” His appeal was rejected on June 10, 2024, by Branch 13 of the Kurdistan Court of Appeals, presided over by Judge Sadegh Hatami and advisory judge Fereydoun Rostami, who upheld the original sentence.
