According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization:
Kianoosh Cheraghi, a political prisoner from Dehloran, has been on a dry and wet hunger strike since February 16, 2025, in protest against the revocation of his electronic ankle monitor and the physical assault he suffered during his transfer to Ilam Central Prison.
According to received reports, on Sunday, February 16, 2025, Kianoosh Cheraghi was arrested at his home without any judicial documentation by security forces, who also physically assaulted him. During his transfer to Ilam Prison, he sustained injuries to his jaw and side, and one of his teeth was broken. Despite his repeated requests for medical treatment, prison authorities have denied him care.
According to Hana’s sources, Mr. Cheraghi’s physical condition has severely deteriorated after seven days of a dry hunger strike and sewing his lips shut. However, prison officials continue to ignore his demands.
On March 25, 2024, Kianoosh Cheraghi was arrested after being summoned to the Enforcement of Sentences Branch in Dehloran. He was then transferred to Ilam Prison to serve his sentence but was later released under electronic monitoring.
On January 25, 2025, Branch 6 of the Ilam Court of Appeals issued a ruling to revoke his electronic ankle monitor.
Previously, in October 2023, Kianoosh Cheraghi was sentenced by Branch 2 of the Ilam Revolutionary Court in Dehloran, presided over by Judge Seyed Reza Salah al-Dini, to one year in prison for “propaganda activities against the Islamic Republic of Iran”, with his pre-trial detention period counted toward his sentence.
In another part of the case, on November 6, 2023, he was sentenced by Branch 101 of the Dehloran Criminal Court, presided over by Judge Hossein Panahi, to two years in prison for “spreading false information with the intent to disturb public opinion through online platforms.” Additionally, he was ordered to handwrite a 200-page summary of the will and research on ten individuals killed during the Iran-Iraq War, which had to be verified by the Ilam Province Sacred Defense Foundation.
Kianoosh Cheraghi, a former employee of the Social Security Organization, was previously arrested on October 2, 2023, by security forces in Dehloran. After completing the interrogation process, he was released on bail pending the completion of his trial.
