A Kurdish Political Refugee in Turkey Faces Deportation

Salar Vakili, a Kurdish civil and political activist, is in a critical situation in Turkey.

Salar Vakili, a native of Saqqez, was forced to leave Iran in 2016 due to his political and civil activities and sought asylum in Turkey. After arriving in Turkey, he continued his activism against the Islamic Republic of Iran and managed to obtain temporary residency.

However, since 2019, with Turkey’s shift in refugee policies, his situation, along with that of many other asylum seekers, has significantly worsened. The Turkish authorities in Van handed over all refugee-related matters to the police, leading to the widespread rejection of asylum cases and the revocation of many refugees’ residency permits.

The Turkish immigration office has rejected Salar Vakili’s asylum application three consecutive times. As a result, for the past three months, he has been living in hiding in Turkey without any identification documents. The lack of official papers has prevented him from working and accessing basic human rights.

Additionally, his 18-year-old daughter has suffered severe depression due to these dire circumstances and is in a critical psychological state.

Salar Vakili is urgently calling on all human rights organizations, the United Nations, international organizations, and human rights defenders for assistance. He seeks relocation to a safe country where he and his family can live under humane and secure conditions.

Hana Human Rights Organization urges all international bodies to take immediate action to save asylum seekers facing critical situations and the risk of deportation.
