In a letter published for the first time by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, a Kurdish political prisoner, addresses the head of the court, rejecting the legitimacy of the judicial proceedings due to violations of the defendant’s rights in a criminal trial.
Rezgar Beigzadeh, who was abducted by security forces for providing humanitarian aid and delivering medicine to injured participants in the Women, Life, Freedom movement, endured approximately four months of torture in the Ministry of Intelligence’s detention center.
In the letter, Rezgar highlights his request for an in-person trial, which was denied by Reza Najafzadeh, the chief judge of Branch 1 of the Orumiyeh Revolutionary Court. He also notes that both he and his lawyer were denied the opportunity to present a defense during the trial.
Rezgar further provides detailed and substantiated claims regarding the court’s failure to investigate his complaints against the Intelligence Ministry interrogators concerning physical and psychological torture.
