Shahin Shokouhi, a doctoral student in sociology at the University of Tehran, attempted self-immolation after what are described as pressures from security institutions, according to preliminary information attributed to student sources.
Shokouhi had previously been detained by security forces on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, during student protests at the University of Tehran, and was released the following day. This latest report again raises serious concerns about the consequences of security pressure and threats against students and university activists.
