17-Year-Old Eilya Lotfi Tormakchi from Baneh Arrested

According to information received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Tuesday, October 20, 2026, Eilya Lotfi Tormakchi, a 17-year-old from Baneh County, was arrested by plainclothes forces at his workplace.

As of the time of publication, no clear information is available regarding the reason for his arrest, his place of detention, or his legal status.

Hana Human Rights Organization emphasizes that under international child rights law, every person under the age of 18 is considered a child and is entitled to special protections. The detention of a child must be used only as a measure of last resort and for the shortest appropriate period. The child’s right to access to family members and legal assistance must also be guaranteed.

Iranian law likewise provides for special provisions and protections for individuals under the age of 18 in criminal proceedings. Hana considers the arrest of this teenager, together with the lack of information about his place of detention and current status, a matter of serious concern. The organization calls for the immediate disclosure of Eilya Lotfi Tormakchi’s place of detention, health condition, and the legal grounds for his arrest, as well as guarantees of his access to his family and a lawyer.
