January protests / Rasoul Jafari a 19-year-old Kurdish youth was killed in Esfarayen after being shot by security forces

The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that on Thursday, January 8, 2026, a 19-year-old Kurdish citizen named Rasoul Jafari, a Kurmanji Kurd from Esfarayen County in North Khorasan Province, was severely wounded by direct gunfire from the repressive forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran during public protests in the city and subsequently died due to the severity of his injuries.

A knowledgeable source told Hana that after being shot, Rasoul Jafari was transferred to Imam Khomeini Hospital in Esfarayen, but due to the severity of his injuries, he passed away at around 3 a.m. on Saturday, January 9, 2026.

The source further added that when his body was returned to his family, his hair had been cut by security agents, and the security forces exerted heavy pressure on his family to present him as a “government martyr.” Under this pressure, his family was ultimately forced to bury Rasoul Jafari secretly and at night.
