January protests / Mehdi Ghanbari died from injuries caused by direct gunfire by repression forces in illam

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, a 25-year-old Kurdish citizen named Mehdi Ghanbari, from Malekshahi County, was injured by direct gunfire from the suppressive forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran during public protests in illam Province. Due to the severity of his injuries, he later lost his life.

According to further reports, Mr. Ghanbari succumbed to his injuries 10 days later, on January 17, 2026, while in the hospital.
