Hana Raises Concerns Over the Possible Enforced Disappearance of Yousef Mohammadi in Sardasht

More than three months have passed since the disappearance of Yousef Mohammadi, a citizen from Sardasht, and his family remains unaware of his fate or possible whereabouts. According to information received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, he left his home on June 30, 2026, and has not been heard from since. Repeated inquiries by his family to the relevant authorities, as well as legal follow-ups through a lawyer, have so far failed to clarify his situation.

One day after Yousef Mohammadi disappeared, unidentified individuals visited his home and ransacked it. His family has footage documenting the condition of the house following the incident. However, the identities of these individuals and any possible connection between their actions and his disappearance remain unknown.

According to his family, a case has been opened against Yousef Mohammadi in the Sana electronic judicial system on charges of “propaganda against the state” and “membership in anti-state groups.” Nevertheless, no judicial or security authority has provided a clear explanation regarding his possible arrest, place of detention, or current whereabouts. The existence of a judicial case, while the fate of a person who has been missing for months remains unknown, has heightened concerns that he may be held in secret detention.

Yousef Mohammadi was previously arrested for attending Nowruz celebrations and participating in protests. According to information provided to Hana, he has a history of imprisonment, threats, and torture. Reports also indicate that he had been subjected to pressure and surveillance by intelligence agencies before his disappearance.

Taken together, these circumstances, particularly his history of security-related persecution, the existence of a judicial case, and the failure of the relevant authorities to provide clear information about his fate, have raised serious concerns about a possible enforced disappearance. Although the potential involvement of government agents in depriving him of his liberty has not been established, the continued lack of information and the failure to respond to his family’s inquiries underscore the urgent need for a prompt, independent, and effective investigation.

The Hana Human Rights Organization emphasizes that the relevant authorities are obligated to establish Yousef Mohammadi’s fate and account for both his disappearance and the entry of unidentified individuals into his home. If he is in custody, the detaining authority must immediately disclose his place of detention and physical condition and ensure that he can communicate with his family, access legal counsel, and receive medical care. No one should be left in a situation where even their family does not know whether they are alive or what has happened to them.
