In August 2026, at least 77 Kurdish citizens were arrested by security agencies in the cities and villages of Iranian Kurdistan(Rojhelat), according to data from the Statistics Center of the Hana Human Rights Organization.
The data and information contained in this report were gathered through field research, interviews with victims of human rights violations and their families, as well as the review of documents and informed sources, and were subsequently verified by independent sources. Although access to statistics and information in Iran is extremely difficult, Hana has made every effort to ensure that the collected information is accurate and correct.
Accordingly, this report includes only those cases for which the Hana Human Rights Organization has verified the accuracy and credibility of the information.
According to Hana’s report, the majority of the arrests were carried out arbitrarily and without a summons or judicial warrant. Of the total 77 detained citizens, 11 were women and one was a 16-year-old child. Three of the detainees, including two women, were sentenced to 74 lashes, and their sentences have been executed. A total of 23 years of imprisonment was handed down for eight of the detainees, and a death sentence was issued for one individual.
The charges raised against the detainees include cooperation with and membership in Kurdish parties opposed to the Islamic Republic of Iran, civil and trade union activities, media activities, and publishing content on social networks.
According to data from the Statistics Center of the Hana Human Rights Organization, of the total 77 detained citizens, 39 were arrested in Kurdistan Province, 33 in West Azerbaijan Province, and 5 in illam Province.
