Mona Maleki Citizen from Sanandaj Remains in Detention

Mona Maleki, a 27-year-old citizen from Sanandaj, was arrested by Intelligence Office forces in the city on Tuesday, July 14, 2026.

Security forces raided her family home in Sanandaj without a judicial warrant and arrested her there, according to information obtained.

Sources close to HANA Human Rights Organization report that after her arrest, she was placed in solitary confinement in the women’s ward of Sanandaj Central Prison, which state media refers to as the “Sanandaj Correction and Rehabilitation Center,” where she remains under interrogation and security pressure.

More than a week into her detention, she is still being denied access to a lawyer of her choosing and regular in-person or phone contact with her family.

Security and judicial authorities have so far offered no clear explanation for her arrest or the charges she faces.

Continuing to follow this case, HANA Human Rights Organization is once again sounding the alarm over the persistence of arbitrary detentions and the denial of basic defense rights to detainees in Kurdistan, and is calling for Mona Maleki’s immediate and unconditional release.
