Birth Anniversary of Mohsen Niazi; A Slain Protester of the “Woman Life Freedom” Movement in Dehgolan

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, today, Monday, June 1, 2026, the family of Mohsen Niazi, one of the protesters killed during the revolutionary “Woman, Life, Freedom” movement, gathered at his grave in the Dehgolan cemetery to honor his memory.

Mohsen Niazi, a 29-year-old resident of Dehgolan, was severely injured in the back by direct fire from the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran during the nationwide protests on November 20, 2022. He succumbed to the severity of his injuries shortly after being transferred to Kosar Hospital in Sanandaj. Had he not been killed, he would have turned 33 today.

Following Niazi’s death, security forces raided the Kosar Hospital compound and opened fire on his family and relatives in an attempt to confiscate his body. This attempt was thwarted by the steadfast resistance of his family, his relatives, and a massive mobilization of the people of Dehgolan alongside the youth of Sanandaj. His body was ultimately laid to rest in his hometown cemetery, accompanied by a large public turnout.

Hana emphasizes that listing Mohsen Niazi’s cause of death as “unknown” on his official death certificate despite undeniable reports confirming he was killed by direct fire from security forces is a glaring example of the state apparatus’s ongoing efforts to conceal the truth, tamper with official documentation, and evade accountability regarding the cases of protesters slain by the state.
