Sulaymaniyah: Two perpetrators of the assassination of Shoresh Shahbaz have been convicted by the Criminal Court

Hana: The Third Criminal Court of Sulaymaniyah, after completing security investigations, issued the final verdict against two individuals linked to the security apparatus of the Islamic Republic of Iran who were involved in the attempted assassination of Shoresh Shahbaz, a political activist from Iranian Kurdistan.

The case began when Shoresh Shahbaz was targeted in a coordinated assassination attempt. Following this incident, the Kurdistan Region Security Organization (Asayish) launched an extensive investigation, whose final evidence confirmed the direct involvement of Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence in planning and directing the assassination.

After verifying the facts and submitting the legal documentation to the judiciary, the Sulaymaniyah Criminal Court, based on Article 1 of the Counter-Terrorism Law (No. 21 of 2003, passed by the Kurdistan Parliament), found the accused guilty. According to the court’s ruling, the first defendant (F.M.) was sentenced to 6 years of imprisonment, and the second defendant (A.F.) was sentenced to 5 years and 1 month of imprisonment.

The court also preserved the legal right of the plaintiff to claim compensation for damages incurred. This ruling comes in the context of repeated reports that political activists from Iranian Kurdistan have been targeted within the Kurdistan Region by agents affiliated with the Islamic Republic, and the court’s official decision provides a legal acknowledgment of the continuity of these terrorist acts.
