Hoshyar Shabani/ a civil activist and former political prisoner was re-arrested by security forces in Baneh

The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that in recent days, Hoshyar Shabani, a civil activist and former political prisoner from Baneh, was arrested by security forces during the January 2026 protests. Despite repeated efforts by his family to follow up on his case during detention, no results have been obtained so far.

An informed source told Hana that after his arrest, Shabani contacted his mother by phone, requesting that she provide bail for his release. However, after his mother prepared the bail and approached the relevant authorities, security forces informed the family that Shabani would not be released under any circumstances and is expected to be transferred to Evin Prison.

According to received information, during a previous arrest, Shabani had been targeted by direct gunfire from the Intelligence Department, with three bullets striking the muscles of his leg. He was then held for 46 days in a security detention center in Sanandaj before being transferred to Baneh Prison on October 4, 2025. He was eventually temporarily released on October 10, 2025, after 53 days in detention, upon posting a heavy bail of 2.4 billion tomans.

It should be noted that Hoshyar Shabani has previously been repeatedly arrested and interrogated by security agencies due to his civil and political activities.
