According to reports received from colleagues at the Hana Human Rights Organization, a prisoner named Saman Jalilian, who had been severely injured during a violent altercation in Dieselabad Prison, Kermanshah, succumbed to his injuries after a week-long struggle for survival in the hospital.
On March 17, 2025, Saman Jalilian was involved in a heated dispute with another inmate, during which he was attacked with a sharp object. Additionally, a severe blow to his head after hitting a wall caused serious brain damage, leading to a coma.
The death of this prisoner once again highlights the violation of inmates’ rights and the lack of effective oversight in prisons. Prisons should be places for rehabilitation and reform, not scenes of violence and lawlessness.
We call for an independent and transparent investigation into this incident and for those responsible to be held accountable.
