Hana: On Wednesday, January 8, 2025, Afshin Hossein Panahi was arrested by security forces.
Afshin Hossein Panahi, approximately 36 years old, married, and father of one child, is originally from Dehgolan and resides in Sanandaj.
According to a reliable source, Mr. Hossein Panahi was arrested at his workplace in Sanandaj by security forces without any judicial warrant.
Previously, on December 20, 2021, he had been arrested and interrogated by the Ministry of Intelligence in Sanandaj.
This civil activist, who has a history of collaborating with environmental organizations, was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison in November 2017 by the First Branch of the Revolutionary Court of Sanandaj, presided over by Judge Saeedi. The charges included “organizing Nowruz celebrations” and “collaboration with a Kurdish party.” Based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, six years of the sentence were enforceable.
Afshin Hossein Panahi, a civil and environmental activist from Dehgolan, had previously been arrested and interrogated by security agencies on several occasions. On April 26, 2020, after serving nearly three years in prison, he was released from Sanandaj prison under conditional amnesty.
Earlier, on June 26, 2017, three days after the arrest of his brother, Ramin Hossein Panahi, Afshin was arrested at his home by security agents.
In 2011, while pursuing the case of his brother Ashraf Hossein Panahi’s suspicious death, Afshin was sentenced to one year in prison on charges of “propaganda against the regime” and was released after serving his sentence.
Afshin’s younger brother, Ramin Hossein Panahi, a Kurdish activist born in Qorveh village of Dehgolan County, was 24 years old when he was executed at dawn on Saturday, September 8, 2018, in Rajaei Shahr Prison in Karaj, alongside two other political prisoners, Zaniar and Loghman Moradi.
