According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, October 15, 2026, a worker identified as Sowareh Ghorbani, a native of Piranshahr, died after being electrocuted while working in Baghdad, the capital of Iraq.
Sowareh Ghorbani was 32 years old, married, and the father of two children.
Poverty and unemployment in Iran have forced many workers to migrate abroad and take up arduous, low-paid jobs. Inadequate workplace safety measures and the lack of insurance coverage leave these workers vulnerable to accidents that can sometimes cost them their lives.
