Open Letter by Ronahi and Hamid Hosseinnejad’s Brother Calls for Urgent Action Against Imminent Execution

Hana Human Rights Organization is publishing the full text of this letter without any alterations.

To: Ms. Mai Sato, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, and Amnesty International

Dear Madam,

My name is Ronahi Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou, daughter of political prisoner Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou, who has been sentenced to death. With this letter, I raise the desperate cry of my family to your attention.

My father, Hamid, has been sentenced to death without any valid legal evidence, solely on a baseless accusation of alleged cooperation with the PKK. However, according to official documents, including the entry and exit stamps in his passport, he was in Turkey with our family at the time of the alleged clashes.

Hamid was subjected to severe torture and coerced into false confessions, which were later broadcast by the Iranian state media — a clear prelude to the imminent execution of his sentence.

On April 16, 2023, our family learned that the execution was scheduled. We immediately gathered in front of Orumiyeh Central Prison for two days and nights. The prosecutor temporarily halted the execution, but that same night, my father was secretly transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence building — a move clearly intended to disperse us from the prison gates. Nevertheless, we refused to leave without receiving any news of him. Eventually, under the pressure of our persistent efforts, we were granted a single 10-second phone call in which he only managed to say:
“I’m okay. Follow up on the case.”

Now, the threat of execution looms at any moment, despite the lack of any credible evidence. Hamid Hosseinnejad is merely a poor cross-border laborer (kolbar) who lacks basic literacy to even understand the contents of the documents he was forced to sign under torture.

We urgently appeal to you — as representatives of the international human rights community — to take immediate action to save the life of an innocent human being and stop this unjust execution.

With respect and hope for your swift action,
Ronahi Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou

Letter from Sipan Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou to Ms. Mai Sato, UN Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, and Amnesty International

To: Ms. Mai Sato, United Nations Special Rapporteur on Human Rights in Iran, and Amnesty International

Dear Madam,

My name is Sipan Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou, brother of political prisoner Hamid Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou, who has been sentenced to death. I write this letter to echo my family’s plea for urgent international attention.

Hamid has been sentenced to death without any credible legal evidence, based solely on an unfounded allegation of affiliation with the PKK. According to official documents, including entry and exit stamps in his passport, he was in Turkey with his family during the time of the alleged conflict.

Hamid was forced under extreme torture to make false confessions that were then broadcast by state media — a clear sign of preparations for carrying out his execution.

On April 16, 2023, our family was informed that the execution was imminent. We gathered in front of Orumiyeh Central Prison for two continuous days. The prosecutor temporarily halted the execution, but that same night, Hamid was covertly transferred to the Ministry of Intelligence building in an apparent attempt to scatter us. Despite this, we remained until we received some news. Eventually, due to our persistence, a single 10-second phone call was allowed, in which he only said:
“I’m okay. Follow up on the case.”

The threat of his execution still hangs over us, without any evidence of wrongdoing. Hamid is just a simple kolbar who cannot even read or write well enough to understand the documents he was made to sign under coercion and torture.

We implore you, as advocates for human rights, to intervene urgently to stop this unjust execution and save a life.

Respectfully and with hope,
Sipan Hosseinnejad Heydaranlou
