Hana’s Statistical Report on the Human Rights Situation in Kurdistan – January 2025

The Hana Human Rights Organization Statistics Center has published its report on the human rights situation in Kurdistan. It is important to note that the data and information collected by Hana are obtained through direct investigations with victims, their families, and available documents. Additionally, this data has been verified by independent sources. Therefore, the statistics presented only include cases where Hana has been able to confirm the identities of the individuals involved.

According to Hana’s recorded statistics, in January 2025, at least:
• 122 Kurdish citizens were arrested in various cities across Kurdistan.
• 15 Kurdish citizens were executed.
• 14 prisoners were sentenced to a total of 376 months in prison, and 2 prisoners were sentenced to death.
• 5 workers lost their lives due to work-related incidents.
• 6 cross-border laborers (Kolbars) were either killed or injured.
• 2 citizens were seriously injured due to landmine explosions.
• Suicide cases have reached an alarming level, with at least 16 people ending their lives in January.

Arrests

In January 2025, at least 122 Kurdish citizens were arrested by the security forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran. According to Hana’s investigations, the majority of these arrests were arbitrary and extrajudicial, with individuals being detained without any prior summons or judicial warrant.

These numbers only account for those whose identities Hana has been able to verify. Available information indicates that most of these arbitrary arrests were related to accusations of collaboration with Kurdish opposition parties, civil activism on environmental and women’s rights issues, and media-related activities. According to the report, 8 of those arrested were women, while the rest were men.

Executions

In January 2025, at least 15 Kurdish citizens were executed in various prisons across Iran. Among them:
• 9 individuals were executed on charges of premeditated murder.
• 4 individuals were executed on drug-related charges.
• 2 individuals were executed on charges of rape.

Prison Sentences

In January 2025, 14 individuals were sentenced to a total of 376 months in prison. Additionally, 2 prisoners, Verisheh Moradi and Pakhshan Azizi, were sentenced to death on political charges (Baghi – armed rebellion).

Kolbars (Cross-Border Laborers)

According to Hana’s statistics, in January 2025, at least 6 Kolbars and tradesmen were either killed or injured. Among them:
• 1 Kolbar died due to natural disasters.
• 1 Kolbar was injured due to natural disasters.
• 4 Kolbars were injured by direct gunfire from Iranian border forces.

Suicides

In January 2025, at least 16 people in various cities and villages across Kurdistan ended their lives, primarily due to poverty and unemployment.

According to Hana’s report, among these cases:
• 6 were women, and
• 10 were men.

The suicides were mainly due to family-related issues, economic hardship, and in some cases, unknown reasons.

Workplace Incidents

In January 2025, at least 5 workers lost their lives due to work-related incidents.

Landmine Explosions

In January 2025, 2 individuals were seriously injured due to landmine explosions.
