The International Day of the Blind serves as a reminder that all human beings, regardless of their circumstances, are entitled to dignity, equality, and fundamental rights.
On this day, the Hana Human Rights Organization emphasizes the obligation of governments to create and guarantee fair and equal conditions for blind and visually impaired individuals — conditions that, from the earliest years of life, must ensure access to inclusive and quality education, equal employment opportunities, public services, information, and meaningful participation in social life.
Based on the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities and other binding international instruments, governments are obliged to develop and implement effective policies to eliminate structural and discriminatory barriers and to guarantee the empowerment, independence, and equal participation of blind individuals in all areas of society.
Commemorating this day serves as a reminder that the full realization of human rights will only be possible when no one is excluded from active and equal participation in social life merely because of the type or degree of their disability.
