We, the undersigned human rights organizations, express our deepest sorrow and outrage over the unlawful and tragic execution of six Ahwazi Arab political prisoners carried out by the Islamic Republic of Iran at dawn on Saturday, October 4, 2025, in Sepidar Prison of Ahvaz. We strongly condemn this act, which—according to reports—was conducted on the orders of judicial authorities and in the complete absence of any fair trial, representing a blatant violation of the right to life and a grave disregard for fundamental principles of international human rights law.
According to verified reports, Ali Majadam, Moein Khenfari, Seyed Salem Mousavi, Mohammadreza Moghadam, Adnan Al-Boshoukeh (Ghabishavi), and Habib Dreis were executed secretly after years of enduring torture, prolonged imprisonment, and denial of access to independent legal counsel and fair judicial proceedings. The executions were carried out without notifying their families or even their court-appointed lawyers.
In clear violation of the law, the bodies of these prisoners have not been handed over to their grieving families, and their burial places remain unknown — an additional violation of human dignity and the rights of their relatives.
Reports from local sources further indicate that security forces have threatened and intimidated the victims’ families and tribal elders, prohibiting them from holding any mourning ceremonies, memorials, or religious gatherings. In some cases, even reciting the Quran or performing religious rites in the victims’ villages and mosques has been banned. The Karun Human Rights Organization has verified this information through independent local sources.
These repressive actions, carried out within the framework of systematic discrimination and intimidation against the Ahwazi Arab community, reflect the regime’s ongoing policy of securitization and inhuman treatment of the civil and political demands of the people of this region.
We also express serious concern over the Iranian authorities’ recent attempts to justify these executions by making baseless accusations of “collaboration with Israel” and “espionage.” It should be emphasized that these prisoners had been detained since 2018–2019, and none of these allegations had ever appeared in their official case files. This propaganda campaign, launched after the twelve-day war and amid regional political tensions, is a clear attempt to legitimize repression and divert public attention from the reality of political executions in Ahvaz.
The undersigned human rights organizations, while condemning these mass executions, call on the international community and relevant bodies to exert effective pressure on the Iranian authorities to end political executions and the systematic violations of the human rights of the Ahwazi Arab people.
