Zhino Babamiri, daughter of Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri, spoke at the European Parliament yesterday, sharing the story of her father and four other Kurdish political prisoners currently facing imminent execution in Iran. She urged European representatives to take immediate action to stop these death sentences.
Emphasizing that her father was sentenced to death solely for aiding injured protesters during the “Jin, Jiyan, Azadi” (Woman, Life, Freedom) uprising, she said:
“These executions are not about justice — they are meant to instill fear in society.”
Zhino warned European lawmakers that remaining silent amounts to complicity in injustice and crimes against humanity, adding:
“These prisoners are not murderers or armed militants. Their only ‘crime’ has been political activism and humanitarian efforts to support their fellow citizens.”
The five Kurdish political prisoners currently at risk of execution are:
• Ali Ghasemi (Soran) – sentenced to death three times
• Kaveh Salehi – sentenced to death three times
• Pezhman Soltani – sentenced to death three times
• Rezgar Beigzadeh Babamiri – sentenced to death twice
• Teyfur Salimi – sentenced to death once
The families of these prisoners have warned that carrying out these sentences in silence would only reinforce the cycle of repression and injustice. They are calling on the international community and human rights organizations to take concrete action to halt these executions.
