According to the Hana Human Rights Organization, in recent days a Kurdish citizen identified as Seyed Hossein (Zanko) Mohammadi, from the Eli Kand village in Bukan County, has been sentenced to one year of ta’zir imprisonment.
Hana has learned that Mr. Mohammadi was sentenced by the West Azerbaijan Provincial Court of Appeal to one year of ta’zir imprisonment on the charge of “collaboration with one of the Kurdish opposition parties to the Iranian government.”
Zanko Mohammadi had previously been sentenced by Branch 101 of the Criminal Court Two of Bukan, presided over by Judge Valaei, to one year in prison on the same charge of “collaboration with one of the Kurdish opposition parties to the Iranian government.” This verdict was upheld in November 2025 by the West Azerbaijan Court of Appeal in Orumiyeh.
It should be noted that Mr. Mohammadi was arrested on the morning of Friday, August 1, 2025, by security forces and transferred to a security detention center in Orumiyeh for interrogation. He was eventually released on August 16, 2025 after posting bail.
