According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Thursday, 8 January 2026, a Kurdish woman identified as Zahra Moradi, a resident of Hesar village, Bukan County, lost her life in Tehran after being shot directly by repressive forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran.
According to the reports, Zahra Moradi had been living in Tehran for work. During the protests on 8 January, she took part in the popular demonstrations in the Tehranser area along with her uncle and cousin, where she was killed as a result of direct gunfire.
In the same attack, Zahra Moradi’s uncle and cousin were also injured after being hit by pellet weapons. To date, no precise information is available regarding their physical condition or place of detention.
Condemning in the strongest terms the use of live ammunition and pellet weapons against unarmed protesters, the Hana Human Rights Organization considers the killing of Zahra Moradi a clear example of the violation of the right to life and the continuation of violent repression of citizens in Iran.
