Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that the health condition of Taher Sarli, a Turkmen political prisoner, has severely deteriorated in Gonbad Prison.
According to received reports, Mr. Sarli was arrested on August 4, 2025, in Tehran for delivering critical speeches on social media against government policies in Turkmen-Sahra, and was later transferred to Gonbad Prison.
He is currently on the ninth day of his hunger, water, and medicine strike, and due to his specific medical conditions, his health status is reported to be critical. Mr. Sarli suffers from diabetes and is in urgent need of insulin injections. He also has a history of heart attack and is battling prostate cancer.
The denial of access to medicine and medical care has placed his life in serious danger.
Previously, Mr. Sarli had filed complaints with the Supreme Court of Judges against Gonbad Prosecutor, Investigator Saeedi, and Judge Qazal-Saflou. However, it remains unclear whether his complaint has ever been forwarded by prison officials, and to date, the Prosecutor’s Office has not responded to his protest or hunger strike.
Hana Human Rights Organization expresses its grave concern over the health and safety of this political prisoner and urgently calls on Iranian judicial and security authorities to provide immediate medical treatment and transfer him to specialized healthcare facilities.
