Two-Year Prison Sentence for Arman Shadivand Upheld by Ilam Court of Appeals

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization:
The two-year prison sentence of Arman Shadivand—a singer, composer, and environmental activist from Darehshahr—has been fully upheld by Branch 9 of the Ilam Provincial Court of Appeals. The verdict was officially communicated to him on May 19, 2025.

Mr. Shadivand had previously been sentenced in the preliminary stage by Branch 2 of the Ilam Revolutionary Court in February 2025 to 8 months in prison on the charge of “propaganda against the regime” and 16 months on the charge of “insulting the Supreme Leader.” The appellate court confirmed the initial verdict without any reductions or modifications.

His case, following an indictment issued by the Public and Revolutionary Prosecutor’s Office of Darehshahr, was split into two parts and referred to both the Revolutionary and Criminal Courts. After receiving two court summons, Mr. Shadivand only appeared in one of the court sessions.

Earlier, in November 2024, he was summoned to Branch 2 of the Darehshahr Prosecutor’s Office. Upon his appearance, he was arrested and detained for one day before being temporarily released from Mahpareh Prison on bail.

The Hana Human Rights Organization emphasizes that the issuance and confirmation of such sentences against civil and environmental activists reflect a growing trend of repression against freedom of expression and peaceful activism in Iran.
