Two park rangers injured in an armed attack by unidentified gunmen in Baneh

According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Friday, May 30, 2025, two young park rangers from the village of Kowich-e Sofla, located in Baneh County, were seriously injured after being shot by unidentified armed individuals while on duty in the Zagros Mountains. The rangers have been identified as Aras Salami and Mohammad Salami.

According to informed sources, the incident occurred as the two rangers were attempting to prevent illegal logging and the destruction of the natural environment. The assailants fled the scene after opening fire on the rangers.

Following the attack, Aras Salami was transferred to a hospital in Baneh and is currently in the intensive care unit. Mohammad Salami, due to the severity of his injuries, was transferred to a hospital in Saqqez for further treatment.
