According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, Leila Azizi and Naser Mahmoudi, two Kurdish political refugees, were arrested by Turkish police while traveling to a European country and are currently detained at the Ağrı camp.
This politically active couple had been members of a Kurdish party in Iran for several years. A few months ago, they were arrested and imprisoned in Turkey while attempting to travel to a European country. A few days ago, Turkish police transferred them to Ağrı camp in preparation for their deportation to Iran.
Leila Azizi from Saqqez and Naser Mahmoudi from Bukan, Kurdistan Province, Iran, and had been politically active in a Kurdish party for more than two years. If deported to Iran, they face the risk of severe and inhumane sentences by the Islamic Republic. Therefore, their safety is in the hands of the Turkish government.
We call on the authorities responsible for refugee affairs in Turkey to cancel the deportation order for these two political refugees. Deporting individuals whose lives are at risk in their home country violates international treaties and the Universal Declaration of Human Rights.
