The imminent possibility of the execution of Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh, another Kurdish political prisoner

Based on information from Hana, Kurdish political prisoner Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh has been transferred to solitary confinement in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj to face the execution of his sentence.

Based on a conversation between Hana and a member of the Mohammadi family, on Saturday, December 14, 2024, Saman Mohammadi himself contacted his family and informed them of the possibility of his execution and his transfer to solitary confinement in Qezel Hesar Prison in Karaj. Consequently,

the Mohammadi family traveled to Karaj today for a final meeting with their son.

According to limited available information, Saman Mohammadi Khiyareh, a 34-year-old from Sanandaj, was 19 at the time of his arrest by security forces. He was sentenced to death by the Tehran Revolutionary Court on charges brought by security agencies, accusing him of “membership in anti-revolutionary terrorist groups linked to foreign intelligence services.”

Hana confirms that Saman Mohammadi has been subjected to severe physical and psychological torture since his arrest to force him to confess against himself. He was deprived of the minimum guarantees of a fair trial and the right to legal defense, even under the Islamic Republic’s minimal legal standards, such as access to a lawyer of his choice. His trial sessions, presided over by Judge Salavati, were held under intense verbal attacks from the judge.

According to close associates, “Saman was forced to make coerced confessions under torture, admitting to the murder of Ebrahim Farhadi in Qorveh and a law enforcement officer in Sanandaj during the 2009 protests.”

It is worth noting that, according to unconfirmed reports, Saman Mohammadi was pardoned last year. However, due to ambiguous circumstances and pressure from security agencies, he is now at imminent risk of execution. The Mohammadi family has no clear information about recent developments in his case or the reasons for the sudden enforcement of the death sentence. Their efforts to obtain answers from judicial and security officials have been ignored.

The Hana Human Rights Organization expresses serious concern over Saman Mohammadi’s situation and calls on human rights organizations to take urgent and effective action to prevent the execution of this Kurdish political prisoner.
