The flogging sentence of Atash Shakarami, the aunt of Nika Shakarami—one of the victims of the Women, Life, Freedom movement—was carried out

According to the Hana Human Rights Organization, the flogging sentence of Atash Shakarami, the aunt of Nika Shakarami, a victim of the Women, Life, Freedom movement, was carried out on Monday, November 10, 2025.

This sentence was issued following a complaint filed by Nasrin Shakarami, Nika’s mother, against Atash Shakarami. Earlier, in October of this year, she had announced that her case had been referred to the Enforcement of Sentences Division.

According to obtained information, the Lorestan Provincial Revolutionary Court had sentenced Atash Shakarami to 38 lashes on charges of “spreading lies,” and the verdict had been upheld on appeal.

The report further notes that following the death of her niece, Nika Shakarami, during the nationwide protests of 2022, Atash Shakarami had been repeatedly threatened and summoned by security agencies, and pressured by those around her to abandon her pursuit of justice for Nika.

After the sentence was carried out, she announced the flogging on her personal Instagram page in a short message, including the word “justice-seeking.”

Meanwhile, the complainant, Nasrin Shakarami, Nika’s mother, reportedly left Iran some time ago.
