The death sentence of Sharifeh Mohammadi has been reduced to 30 years in prison

According to the Hana Human Rights Organization, Amir Raeesian, the lawyer of Sharifeh Mohammadi, a labor activist and political prisoner, announced on his personal page on the social network X (formerly Twitter) that “by the decision of the head of the judiciary, the death sentence of labor activist Sharifeh Mohammadi has been reduced by one degree to first-degree imprisonment (30 years).”

Raeesian wrote:
“Fortunately, for now, the danger of a catastrophe has been averted, but we are still pursuing the case through retrial or Article 477 to overturn her conviction and acquit her of the charge of Baghi (armed rebellion).”

According to received reports, the death sentence of Ms. Mohammadi had previously been upheld by Branch 39 of the Supreme Court, despite the fact that the same branch had earlier overturned the sentence due to numerous procedural and evidential flaws.

Sharifeh Mohammadi was arrested on December 5, 2023 by agents of the Intelligence Department at her private residence.
She was first transferred to Lakan Prison in Rasht, then on December 30, 2023 to Sanandaj Prison, and later returned to Rasht Prison.

In June 2024, she was sentenced to death by Branch 2 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court on charges of “propaganda against the regime,” “acting against national security,” and “Baghi through membership in one of the opposition parties.”
Subsequently, on July 4, 2024, Branch 1 of the Rasht Revolutionary Court confirmed her death sentence on the charge of “Baghi.”

Sharifeh Mohammadi is a former member of the Coordinating Committee to Help Form Workers’ Organizations, which has no affiliation with the Komala Party. Nevertheless, the judiciary accused her of membership in that party and charged her with Baghi.
