The 17th Session of the Forum on Minority Issues Held at the UN in Geneva

The 17th Session of the Forum on Minority Issues was held on November 28 and 29, 2024, at the United Nations Headquarters in Geneva. This annual event takes place in late November, bringing together representatives of nations and human rights organizations in the main hall of the United Nations in Geneva to discuss issues related to minorities and oppressed nations worldwide.

The forum, attended by a wide range of representatives from various countries, as well as non-governmental and human rights organizations, focused on key topics such as minority rights, the challenges they face, and strategies for improving their conditions.

A notable highlight of the event was the participation of the “Hana” Human Rights Organization. Hana contributed two specialized papers presented by Ms. Ghazal Mohtadi and Ms. Shahla Kakaei. These papers examined the human rights situation of Kurds and Kurdistan in Iran and the challenges they face.

In addition to presenting the papers, Hana representatives held numerous meetings on the sidelines of the forum with delegates and other human rights organizations. Their efforts aimed to raise awareness about the human rights situation in Iran and Kurdistan and to strengthen collaboration and build more effective networks with other organizations, seeking broader support for human rights issues in Iran.

The forum concluded on the evening of Friday, November 29, 2024.

Hana’s team at the event included Mr. Fazel Valian, Ms. Ghazal Mohtadi, Mr. Voria Mohammadian, and Ms. Shahla Kakaei. Their coordination and dedicated efforts over the two days played a significant role in the success of Hana’s participation in this important event.
