According to reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Wednesday, June 25, 2025, multiple suspicious wildfires broke out in the mountainous regions of Salas-e Babajani County, located in Kermanshah Province.
According to an informed source, one of the affected areas is Bamo Mountain, situated along the border between Iranian and Iraqi Kurdistan. This area hosts several IRGC border bases and is under heavy security control, with very limited public access.
The existing restrictions and the recurrence of similar incidents in other regions have caused concern and suspicion among local residents. Some citizens accuse forces affiliated with the Islamic Republic of being behind these fires. In the past, individuals suspected of collaborating with security and military institutions have been identified as perpetrators of deliberate wildfires in various parts of Kurdistan.
On the same day, a large-scale fire also broke out in the areas of “Doldara” and “Nawkhas,” both located in Salas-e Babajani County, burning down dozens of hectares of forest cover.
It is worth noting that in recent years—particularly at the beginning of summer—widespread and often suspicious wildfires have occurred in the forests and grasslands of Kurdistan. Informed sources have repeatedly stated that the perpetrators of these fires are often unknown, and it is believed they intentionally set the fires to clear border zones for the establishment or expansion of military bases. This ongoing trend has raised serious concerns among civil and environmental activists in the region.
