According to Hana, on Thursday, September 25, 2025, Somayeh Rashidi, a political prisoner and labor activist, passed away in hospital after months of being denied proper medical care in Qarchak Prison, Varamin.
Rashidi, who suffered from epilepsy, experienced repeated severe seizures during her detention. Yet prison authorities, through neglect and deliberate delays, refused to transfer her to medical facilities.
According to the report, on the last occasion, after being returned from the forensic medical office and suffering another seizure, instead of transferring her immediately to a hospital, she was sent back to the ward. Her condition rapidly deteriorated, and she fell into a coma.
This political prisoner had been arrested on April 24, 2025 in Tehran’s Javadiyeh neighborhood for graffiti writing and was prosecuted on charges of propaganda against the state. After being held for two days in the 15 Khordad detention center, she was transferred to the women’s ward of Evin Prison. Following the Israeli attack on Evin, she, along with a number of other women prisoners, was relocated to Qarchak Prison in Varamin.
It is worth noting that depriving Ms. Rashidi of vital medication and treatment, coupled with holding her in the inhumane conditions of Qarchak Prison, directly contributed to the deterioration of her health and ultimately to her death.
Meanwhile, her family has come under pressure to attribute her death to hospital malpractice rather than to the prison’s denial of treatment.
