Six-month prison sentence issued for Semko Yousefi, a Kurdish language instructor in Bukan

The Hana Human Rights Organization has learned that Semko Yousefi, a Kurdish language instructor and environmental activist from Bukan, was summoned by the Revolutionary Court of the city on January 10, 2026, and, after judicial proceedings, sentenced to six months of imprisonment.

According to the report, he was previously arrested on December 7, 2025, at his workplace and released a few hours later following interrogation. He had also been arrested earlier in June 2025 without a judicial order, subjected to physical abuse, and temporarily released after posting a 500 million-toman bail.

It should be noted that Semko Yousefi has been active in teaching the Kurdish language and environmental protection in Bukan over recent years.
