Based on reports received by the Hana Human Rights Organization: Sirvan Mikaeili, 40 years old, a human rights activist from Sanandaj, was arrested in Turkey while en route to Europe and is currently being held at the Ağrı deportation camp.
According to verified information from the “Association of Iranian Refugees in Sulaymaniyah, Iraq,” Mikaeili faced persecution by the security apparatus of Iran due to his involvement in the “Women, Life, Freedom” protests, human rights activism, and humanitarian assistance, which forced him to leave his hometown and seek refuge in the Kurdistan Region of Iraq.
Even in the Kurdistan Region, he continued to face pressure and threats related to the Iranian government, prompting him to leave the area to ensure his personal safety and continue his migration journey.
Mikaeili’s arrest in Turkey and his transfer to the Ağrı deportation camp raises serious concerns about the risk of forced return (deportation) to Iran. Given his human rights activities and documented risks, returning him could expose him to severe human rights violations, including arbitrary detention, torture, or other inhuman and degrading treatment.
Hana Human Rights Organization expresses deep concern for Sirvan Mikaeili’s situation and calls on Turkish authorities to comply with their international obligations, refrain from any forced return, and ensure his access to fair asylum procedures and legal protections.
The organization also urges international bodies, particularly the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), to immediately address this case and take necessary measures to guarantee his safety and fundamental rights.
