Sanandaj Prison: Urgent Need for Medical Leave for a Political Prisoner

Hana Human Rights Organization has learned through its contacts that Aram Karami, a political prisoner in Sanandaj Prison suffering from a herniated disc, has been denied medical leave by prison authorities.

According to Hana’s sources, Karami has expressed his intention to go on hunger strike in protest against the refusal of his medical leave request.

Aram Karami, 35 years old, married, and a father of two, was sentenced to 12 years in prison on charges of collaborating with a Kurdish opposition party. After appealing the verdict, his sentence was reduced to 6 years and 9 months. He has already served 36 months of his sentence and remains detained in Sanandaj Prison.

The denial of medical leave for Karami highlights ongoing concerns about inadequate healthcare and mistreatment of political prisoners in Iran.
