According to information received by the Hana Human Rights Organization, on Sunday, April 13, 2025, at least 13 fifth-grade elementary students in the village of Karjou, located in the Sanandaj County, were subjected to severe physical abuse and mistreatment by one of their teachers (whose identity is known to Hana).
According to Hana’s sources, this incident has caused deep concern among the parents and residents of the village. However, despite parents’ protests, there has been no official response or acceptance of responsibility from the school authorities or the Kurdistan Provincial Department of Education so far.
It is worth noting that the images above show two nine-year-old brothers, A.F. and R.F., who are among the students physically abused by their teacher.
Based on Hana’s documentation, physical violence by teachers and school staff against students is a recurring issue. Nevertheless, there is no clear legal framework within the Ministry of Education to address such cases.
Iran is a signatory to the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, and under its obligations, state authorities are required to ensure a safe and violence-free environment for the growth and development of children.
